What’s the difference between Gross Weight, Net Weight, and Tare Weight?

Tare weight is the empty weight of the container. Net weight is the weight of the cargo inside. Gross weight is the total — tare plus net. Every container has its max gross stamped right on the door. A standard 20 footer has a tare around 4,850 lbs and a max gross around 52,910 lbs. A 40 footer has a tare around 8,200 lbs and a max gross around 67,200 lbs.
