Every container has a place for you to attach your own padlock. You can use any commercial padlock, but we strongly recommend our 13-pound heavy-duty Eagle Locks for serious protection. Standard padlocks are easy targets. A proper container lock makes a real difference in whether your contents stay where you put them.
We don’t transport loaded containers. Any container moved by our trucks has to be empty. If you need to relocate a loaded container, you’ll need to empty it before we pick it up — or arrange separate specialty transport.
Structurally, yes — shipping containers are built to stack nine high when fully loaded. On a rental unit, stacking requires written approval from Eagle Leasing and proper stacking equipment, since moving and securing containers vertically is a specialized operation. If stacking is part of your plan, talk to your sales rep.
On a properly prepared surface, damage is uncommon. A 20 foot container weighs about 4,800 lbs empty and a 40 foot about 8,200 lbs, with the weight concentrated on four corner castings. On asphalt in warm weather, or on older concrete, the corner castings can leave marks. Placing plywood or timbers under the corners cuts that risk way down.
For most rentals, we assign a container that meets our quality standards and is ready to ship from the nearest branch. If you’ve got specific requirements (cosmetic condition, paint color, a particular door configuration, or features like vents, lock boxes, or flooring), tell your sales rep and we’ll do our best to match.
Across most of our service territory, one to three business days. During peak season or for oversized or specialty units, lead times stretch a little. If you’ve got an urgent need, say so — we do same-day and next-day deliveries regularly when the unit’s in stock at a nearby branch.
Open side containers have a series of hinged cargo doors running the length of one side. The doors swing outward on hinges, usually in several panels, so you can open the whole side or just part of it. Each panel has its own locking rod and secures with a standard container lock.
A ground-level storage container has two doors at one end with four vertical locking rods running top to bottom. To open: raise the latch above the handle on the right-side door, then rotate the handle to swing the locking rods free. Pull the right door open first, then the left. Closing is the same steps in reverse.
Built to ISO shipping standards using 14-gauge corten steel panels, welded steel framing, marine-grade plywood floors, and heavy-duty cam-locking cargo doors with rubber gaskets. Corten is a weathering steel that resists rust. Every unit is inspected before delivery to make sure it’s wind and watertight.
